Pastor’s Greeting

Pastor’s GreetingHKJCF Alex Tan

I am the Lead Pastor of HKJCF and my name is Alex Tan.

I was born in Kuala Lumpur in 1976. My father retired when I was 3 years old and our whole family followed him back to his hometown in Penang.

I studied in Tokyo Kosen in 1996 and after that I continued my engineering studies in Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology. When I was in graduate school, God called me into full time ministry. While I was studying engineering, I was taking theology courses at the same time.

After graduation, in order to better reach out to Japanese people, I felt I need to understand more about Japanese society and the culture, so I decided to work in a Japanese company. I worked in Japan for 2 years, and later the company sent me to Hong Kong as an expatriate for 8 years; in total I stayed in the company for 10 years.

After I left my job in 2013, I worked full time during the day at church and attended seminary at night studying in the master program. I graduated seminary in 2017. Under the leadership of my Lead Pastor, Pastor Shiba, I started a Cantonese speaking service for international couples, and I focused on reaching young adults and the youth for 5 years. From now on, my main goal as lead pastor is to serve the Japanese people living in Hong Kong and to pastor the members in the church.

My wife is Yuki and we serve together in the church. We are blessed with 3 children and they attend church with us every Sunday. After we got married, we have experienced various hardships and setbacks through raising our children. But I have experienced firsthand that no matter through good or bad, God is guiding and watching over my family. When we live according to the values taught in the Bible, I firmly believe that our lives will be blessed. I wish to share more about the goodness of God to you.

Please feel free to drop by anytime. And whenever you have anything you want to share, please do not hesitate to contact the church.
